As the year is coming to an end, a hot air balloon ride with your team for a team building experience could just be what the doctor ordered – with the objective to end this year off with a bang. This is a sure way to motivate your employees and break the New Year ice with a corporate team building activity in a hot air balloon to rise above all others.
Balloon flights are an ideal form of teambuilding and a great adventure to share. Just like a sport, hot air ballooning is an intriguing combination of personal challenge, adventure and fun. There is something about experiencing mankind’s oldest form of aviation, which allows participants to feel something truly amazing. This is bound to be a favourite for anybody.
Some of the benefits that corporate team building creates for your company:
- Improves morale and leadership skills
- Finds the barriers that prevent creativity
- Clearly defines objectives and goals
- Improves processes and procedures
- Improves organisational productivity
- Identifies a team’s strengths and weaknesses
- Improves the ability to problem solve
There are things you should consider when contemplating a balloon flight and one of those things is that you should be prepared to stand. All passengers must be capable of standing for the full duration of the flight and be able to enter and exit the basket unassisted. Should you have any questions regarding physical suitability or health limitation please consult your doctor and let us know about your concerns before confirming a booking. Rest assured, we will do all that we can to accommodate prospective passengers and assist those who may have a problem crouching down in the basket to assume the landing position.
Pack lightly. Space is limited in the balloon basket, so just bring the essentials. These may include some layers, sunglasses, closed-toe shoes and of course, a camera (to take some bird’s eye pictures of the ground below, and some of your fellow team members and crew smiling). Especially if you are over six feet tall, consider bringing a hat, for heat protection from the burner flames that fuel the balloon.
Remember: There are no seats and no bathroom breaks. So be sure you hit the restroom before you leave and prepare to stand for approximately 45 minutes to an hour.
Balloon flights are for everyone. Even people who are normally afraid of heights do not tend to feel stress during hot air balloon rides. Flying in a hot air balloon is both relaxing and exciting at the same time – so you and your team are guaranteed to have a great time.
As the flight nears the end, our pilot will look for a suitable landing site. With an experienced pilot like ours, he will, depending on the wind direction, have some idea on possible landing site, but will make a final choice from the air. The skilled pilot will cause the balloon to gently lose height then the basket will touch the ground and halt. Everyone remains in the basket for a few minutes until the balloon cools down.
This is when we celebrate using our tradition of champagne which dates back to the first flight in 1783 followed by an invitation to a full buffet breakfast that will be waiting for you at Glenburn Lodge, where you will receive your commemorative hot air balloon certificate. This part of the itinerary ideally takes about an hour.
