To experience the thrill and excitement of one of the oldest forms of flight, in an open hot air balloon, is an experience of an ultimate air adventure. Air to Air Africa’s hot air balloons take off just before the break of dawn daily (weather permitting), and as flight participants you are then able to watch the sun coming up over the horizon from the panoramic view point in the sky.

Before the Balloon Flight

Tea and coffee is served while the crew prepare one of the three balloons, that are in service with Air to Air Africa.

Our home-based launch site is in the Kromdraai area near Lanseria Airport, known as the Cradle of Humankind (about 35km north-west of Johannesburg in Gauteng). This area is also renowned for its wildlife.

During the Hot Air Balloon Adventure

Our flights last approximately one hour and each flight is different as hot air balloons relay on the winds to determined by the winds where you go. Our highly experienced pilot, Eddie Jacobs will use various factors such as air temperature and wind currents to govern the flight on any given day. A safety brief is also given by the pilot before each and every flight.

As the flight takes place over the Cradle of Humankind area (if the launch is from the home base), exquisite views of wildlife moving below are common as the area is also home to game and nature reserves.

Passengers must be capable of standing for the duration of flight (1 hour) and able to enter and exit the basket unassisted. We consider it unsafe to fly when pregnant.

Air to Air Africa hot air balloons are able to carry 8 passengers (2 per compartment), 10 /12 passengers (3 per compartment), and 16 passengers (4 per compartment).

After Landing

Champagne and/or orange juice is served while the Air to Air Africa’s balloon crew pack away the hot air balloon. A retrieval vehicle will return flight participants to the venue, where every person taking part in the air adventure will receive a commemorative certificate. The presentation of which takes place at the breakfast venue after the flight.
